The Eastman MD505 is an A-style mandolin that boasts a solid spruce top, solid maple back and sides, and an ebony fingerboard and adjustable ebony bridge, producing warm, ringing tones with excellent sound projection. Handcrafted using traditional materials and "Old World" craftsmanship, this mandolin is a copy of the venerable Gibson A-5 and offers outstanding value as an Eastman high-quality offering.
The MD505 features a carved solid spruce top and carved solid maple back and sides, with an ivoroid body and fingerboard binding. The maple neck measures 6 15/16" in length, and the instrument has a 1 3/32" wide bone nut and a 13 7/8" scale length. The 12" radiused ebony fingerboard is adorned with white mother-of-pearl inlays and Dunlop no.6310 frets.
The mandolin's hardware includes a nickel-plated Schaller tuning system and a nickel cast tailpiece. It is strung with J74 strings and finished in a classic high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer.
The Eastman MD505 comes with a nylon fabric-covered wood shell case, featuring a velour-type interior, a suspension system, an interior storage compartment, a double zipper closure, twin handles for security, D-rings for a backpack option, and two straps. The case weighs 4.6 lbs.
